1st 3. Generation Clausholm Foal

Slightly earlier than expected the first foal arrived. As Clausholm Silica was in Wales last year to be successfully shown by the Zonneweide Stud she was covered by the Royal Welsh Champion Paddock Sahara. The result was visible this week as a super filly foal was born. Unfortunately, we still have plenty of snow and especially ice so it is a bit dangerous to take them further than the stable floor. We hope it will disappear as soon as possible so we can do a few photos of her.

News from Viking and Jutlandia

Clausholm Viking

Clausholm Jutlandia

We just received greetings from Clausholm Viking (Rhydspence Squire x Kenwoods Virginia) and Clausholm Jutlandia (Mollegaard Don Pedro x Greycott Josie), who are out on lease. Clausholm Viking just is in Norway with the Northwind Stud and is produced for the grading show, which he has to pass to be able to produce stock in Norway. Passing a grading for a 4-year-old colt includes a ridden/driven display to certain versatility of the ponies for breeding. Viking is backed, and is a very easy ride - like sitting in a sofa - and loves being used is the message! We are looking forward seeing him at the grading in March. Jutlandia is on lease to be ridden by Marie, who is quite keen on show jumping and luckily Jutlandia loves it as well. Marie and Jutlandia will attend their first competitions in show jumping this Spring, and the we will keep an open eye for the results.

As always, I would say after more than 10 visits, the Winter break was held at the Dutch Stallion Show. As usual there is a large amount of entries and definitely the largest stallion grading show for welsh ponies in Europe. There must have been around 140 ponies to be inspected for grading and approximately 60 to obtain a premium. The ponies are judged with catalogues and by three Dutch judges. First day all entries for the grading show will be inspected and selected before being seen at hard ground and a veterinary inspection. The number of ponies to continue are drastically reduced, e.g. for the mountain ponies there are 35 entries, 17 passes first inspection and 5 are graded on day two.

The 3-year-old sec.A Roetsenests Santa Fee (Springbourne Glide x Nebus Serena) was not only graded but also champion sec.A and overall supreme champion of the show. Reserve champion sec.A was Shore Brooks Hot Gossip (Shore Brooks How Ever x Shore Brooks Heaven) who was among the older ponies to get a premium. The best young sec.B was Lucifer (Breeton Dai x Cottrell Lucinda) whereas the champions for sec.B was found among the older Bs. Champion was Wildzangs Golden Mark (Linde Hoeves Elegant x Wildzangs Roswita) with Bekvelds Dave (Breeton Dai x Woldbergs Song) was reserve champion sec.B. Among the Cs were no new additions so the older Belgian owned and bred stallion Dynod Young Dragon (Gwenllan Guti Goch x Dynod Model) with the Dutch bred Cobmels Synodo Haf (Fronarth Lucky Strike x Washingpool Hafwen) as reserve. There were only one cob present, which was not graded so no champions in this section. Several Dutch riding ponies with approx. 50% welsh blood attended the show and 5 of them qualified for the performance test, which has to be passed before grading. So no champion was selected, but the pony with the best trot was Brouwershaven Diamond Hit (Wengelos Ricardo x Felicity). For the "real" WPBRs the champion was Cindys Chevy TG (Coelenhages Promise x Cindy) with Good Looking (FS Golden Highlight x Dornröschen) as reserve champion.

As usual there is loads of ponies to look at or judge, and there is also a chance of disagreement with the judges, but luckily there is room for the opinion of many, and we will possibly return next year.

Also Snowy Greetings from Clausholm Viking in Norway

In the beginning of January we got New Years Greetings from the Northwind Stud, which has leased the colt Clausholm Viking for 2010. He seem to enjoy the cold and snowy Winter in Norway with the WPBR friend.

Shortly, after this greeting Viking was shown at the New Year Show. He got a 3rd prize and was awarded a gold medal for quality in the class for older stallions of all pony breeds. The winner of the class, the riding pony Magic Dancer H, was also awarded the title Best in Show to the Northwind stud's Crescendo - congratulations Bitte & Stine.
