Telynau Souza Popular in Sweden

The recent published report of number of coverings recorded by the Swedish Welsh Pony & Cob Society shows that Telynau Souza, jointly with Pentyparc Shonnyn Du, is the most popular stallion in Sweden in 2009! We are very pleased that the Swedish breeders also appreciate his qualities, and we are eagerly awaiting April where the first foals are born.

Finally, an update of the website:

In the beginning of December we just got the message that Marie and Clausholm Jutlandia attended their first show after just 6 weeks of riding. They did very well as they got a 4th place in a dressage class. We wish them congratulations, and we are looking forward following them in 2010.

In the beginning of December we also got our Royal Welsh winning filly, Clausholm Silica, back home. She has had a super show season in Wales winning first prizes at gold, silver and bronze medal shows. We are looking forward seeing the arrival of her first foal in 2010 by Royal Welsh Champion Paddock Sahara.

In November we picked up the ponies at the meadows because of very poor weather conditions. All visiting ponies has gone back to their owners and our ponies are now happily stabled.

Success for Clausholm Viking in Norway

Only 14 days after Viking's arrival in Norway he joined the national test for performance abilities for ponies. And what a success as he ended up as second to a welsh cob of all pony breeds except shetlands! In the competition of having the best talent to do dressage he scored 47 points whereas the winner got 48 points. In the competition of finding the best talent to jump he scored 48 points, which was the same as the winner. Very, very well done Bitte & Co of the Northwind Stud. We are looking forward following Viking the next year.

During the last week a few ponies has left the stud while others have arrived. First was the arrival of Telynau Souza, which has been on lease to the Sarken and Lillemon Studs in Sweden. He is looking super and I am sure he has enjoyed his stay covering 13 mares. We are looking forward seeing the resulting foals next year. Together with Souza arrived our new filly foal, Sarkens Waleria. She is looking very nice and we are looking forward showing and breeding with her in the future. Shortly after went Rytterbjergets Infinity (sec.C) to Finland to the Cloudberry Stud. Infinity has spendt the later Summer grazing at the stud. Then 3 ponies were shipped to Norway. Two fillies have been grazing in Denmark during the last 6 months and the Clausholm Viking, which is leased to the Northwind Stud. He will be shown at a mini-grading test in the end of October and is practising loose jumping with pleasure! Good luck to Bitte we keep our fingers crossed for a good result! Last but not least we have made arrangements to get Rhydspence Squire back again. He is still a character and we are looking forward using him next year. We are most gratefull to Mr Gibbons for this arrangement.

Just a few days before the Fayre Oaks Sale the plane arrived in Birmingham and we drove to Builth Wells. Friday we went to see the Blaenpentre and Blaenpentir Studs. Their Bs are very nice and we were pleased to see the old stallions Lemonshill Royal Flight and Llangeitho Debonair. Afterwards we went to the Verdefawr stud where we saw a very nice group of white ponies on the edge of the Black Mountains with Cennen Castle in the back ground. Our studtrip went on to the Hope stud where I guess we saw 100 mountain ponies. I was fantastic to see the ponies live on the top of Wales and what a view - even from the boot of a pick-up which direction at times could be doubted! The last stud to be visited was the Zonneweide stud where our sec.B filly Clausholm Silica stays together with several livery ponies. All looked very well and it seemed that Silica loved to show-off for us!! Thanks to all who spend time with us.

After climbing the mountains we were happy to be seated at the Sale for a weekend. Approx. 600 ponies passed through some got good prices others did not. It seemed that the sec.As were a bit more expensive that the Bs as several mountain ponies gained a knock above £1000. Top priced sec.A was the stallion Lacy Buzbee, who changed ownership for £9200. Two sec.Bs gained the highest price £4000 namely the stallion Daukester Panache and the gelding Thornberry Footman.

At the Sale was our previous stud stallion Rhydspence Squire who looked fabulous, but did not reach the reserve. A great pitty, but an option to get him back to Denmark. We are looking forward seeing him again.

Clausholm Jutlandia & Clausholm Scilla to be Ridden

Clausholm Scilla, Delight & Jutlandia (Photo: Leena Kahisaari)

Clausholm Jutlandia and Clausholm Scilla happily left their meadow with Marie and Kathrine to be backed and ridden. Marie and Kathrine are devoted to ride Welsh ponies as they have courage and speed which is necessary for show jumping. We hope that Jutlandia and Scilla will give them a lot of rosettes in the future.

Foal Show on Funen

Just got the message that the first foal of Clausholm Lord Jackpot, Dahlsminde Gameboy, got the title as reserve champion colt foal (all breeds) and super marks at the first foal show this year. Very well done Brian & Chirie!! We are looking forward seeing him in the future.

Overall Supreme Champion: Llanarth Seldom Seen

Reserve Overall Supreme Champion: Nebo Rachel

Having waited all Summer on this event the week suddenly arrived. The sec.B colt Clausholm Viking and the sec.A filly Clausholm Holly Dolly arrived safely at the showground. Off course both should in the ring at the same time so Ole, from Norway, kindly showed Viking. The did very well in a very strong class being 4th. Meanwhile Holly Dolly was in the ring with 17 other fillies, but she went in donkey-mode, and we had to withdraw her without being judged. The reason for this remain a mystery. We had a very good show with a good spirit. We are looking forward attending the Show in France in 2011.

Pembrokeshire County Show

While packing all the stuff for the International Show a message arrived that Silica got a 3rd prize at the big county Show. Another super result for Silica, Peter and Suus of the Zonneweide Stud.

Another Reserve Championship for Silica

......and an another 4th prize this time at the Lampeter Summer Show. The day after she was shown at the Llandeilo Show under Mr John James of the Sianwood Stud to achieve a first prize and the reserve champion title. Super Peter & Suus!

More Silica

Foto: The Event Photographer

In the beginning of August Silica went to the Aberaeron Festival of Welsh Ponies & Cobs to represent the breed infront of several hundred visitors to this major event. She was joined by some of the most famous cobs like: Fronarth Robben, Fronarth Welsh Model, Gwenllan Sali, Nebo Miss Maple, Nebo Rachel etc. It must have been fantastic to be spectator to such an event.

A few days after Silica went to the Llandewi Brefi show. In a large class of 10 she was second and later on reserve champion to the colt being placed first. Very well done Peter & Suus.

Silica Champion

Silica seem to have got a taste for the red rosettes now as she went to Capel Bagor show and finished first, youngstock and overall sec.B champion. Quickly afterward she went to the National Welsh Show and finished 6th, and yesterday she got another 1st prize at Nevern Show. Very well done Suus and Peter!

Särkens Waleria Added to the Stud

Later in the Autumn Särkens Waleria will join the team. Waleria is by supreme champion Simberg Hobnob who is by Twyford Signal out of Rotherwood Hollyhock. Hobnob himself is a very good stock getter, and is doing show jumping at high level in Sweden. The dam of Waleria is Cottrell Wild Rose by the RWAS champion Cwrtycadno Cadfridog out of Cottrell Rosetta, which pedigree traces back to the foundation line of the Weston Stud. We are looking forward having her in the group of ponies.

Silica at the Royal Welsh Show

Something very, very special happend for us today as we had the first Clausholm pony shown at the Royal Welsh Show and we got our first rosette - a 1st prize. We are very proud of this achievement, and we are most thankfull to Peter and Suus of the Zonneweide Stud who produced and showed her for perfection. Photos to come as soon as possible.

News from Clausholm Veni Vidi Vici

Just got in contact with the owner of Clausholm Veni Vidi Vici who is first foal of Kenwoods Virginia by Telynau Souza. Stefanie says he is good as gold, and the proud rider will start competing him in show jumping. We wish them all the best in the future.

Silica's First Show

As last year Silica had her first outing at the Ceredigion Association Summer Show under Mrs Mansfield of the Rotherwood Stud. She did well in a strong class ending with a 5th prize. Next show was the Ffossifyn Show where she ended 2nd. We hoped to see her live at the RWAS, but do to farm commitments we are unable to come, but we hope to see her at a show later this Summer.

The horsephotographer Leena Kahisaari from Finland has again paid us a visit to take some fantastic photos of the ponies. A selection is shown above and a few more on the page of the foals, but unfortunately there is not room for all photos on the site. Usually, we take a tour round to see ponies at different studs in Denmark, but this time we were on tour in the Netherlands to see ponies and a regional grading of females. We enjoyed a very good tour seeing lovely ponies at the following studs: Leybrucht (Germany), Störterbecker (Germany), Oldenzijl, Margriethoeve, Feerwerdshoeve, Vechtzicht, Ysselvliedt and Wildzang. Thank you for showing us your ponies and discuss various more or less welsh-related issues with us. In between the stud visits we had to be tourists as well and see some of the characteristics of Holland; channels, wooden shoes, mills etc.

The last day we spend at a regional Dutch Female Grading Show. It was quite an experience even to find the right Hengelo, but also the Dutch way of showing ponies. There were equal numbers of sec.As and Bs entered while nearly none part-breds and none cobs, and all were judged by Dutch judges. I was quite impressed to see approx. 100 ponies being graded within 3 hours and a similar time used to select best foal, youngstock, 3 year-old, supreme champion and overall supreme champion! The overall supreme champion was the sec.A mare Geldershofs Carola (Synod Prophet x Nachtegaals Captain) with Wildzangs Rozanne (Den Bramels Bucco x Shamrock Mr Oliver) as reserve.

Thanks Leena for spending a week with your camera in Denmark and getting the idea of a tour to Holland.

All are by Clausholm Viking and thus represing the first foals by him. We are very pleased with all of them, and we hope to have some photos as soon as possible.

First foal from Clausholm Lord Jackpot

A few days ago good news arrived from the Dahlsminde Stud as Clausholm Lord Jackpot now got a son. The proud dam is Lintelo Gracious by Lintelo Halycon out of Lintelo Gratitude. He will be named Dahlsminde Gameboy, and we are looking forward hearing more about him in the future. Photos by kind permission of the Dahlsminde Stud, www.dahlsminde.dk

Clausholm Silica covered by Paddock Sahara

Our UK-based filly has during April been running with the Royal Welsh Champion Paddock Sahara at the Thistledown Stud. We are looking much forward seeing the result next year! She has now returned to the Zonneweide Stud in Wales to be produced for the show ring. Thank you Peter and Suus for organising this event.

Relaxing

This year we were offered a big 75 acre national bird habitat close to the fjord, Limfjorden, for grazing so we have the option to take ponies in. In the beginning of May the "strangers" arrived being from the Greenhill, Maylie and the Norwegian Northwind Stud. The groups now consists of sec.As, Bs and Cs, and all seem to familiar with each other.

Youngstock Show in the Northen Part of Jutland

In principle we had entered 3 ponies, but we sold Clausholm Sole Mio afterwards. His new owners showed him to get a first prize with good grades! Next in the ring was Clausholm Lady Jean who (again) was second to the Norwegian owned Northwind Les Miserable. The last to be exhibited from the stud was the 3-year-old colt Clausholm Viking who gained a first prize with very good grades. Unfortunately, we only got pictures of Clausholm Sole Mio taken by Sofie Godiksen.

Filly Foal to Menai Silver Miss Music

Just as we nearly gave up looking for a foal a filly foal arrived by Pendock Mantovani out of Menai Silver Miss Music. We are looking much forward seeing what she will turn into.

News from Warmwell Safran & Clausholm Lady Julia

Just got an email from the owner of Warmwell Safran and her daughter Shadez by Clausholm Lord Joker saying that she has bought Clausholm Lady Julia, by Telynau Souza out of Kenwoods Lady Jill. Before arriving Julia has been covered by Møllegaards Sinalco, a fullbrother to Møllegaards Spartacus and a National Champion in dressage, and Safran has been covered by the arab Saber. We are looking much forward seeing the results.

Stengaardens Dena at Local Pony Club Show

A Saturday in the end of April we attended a local pony club show together with Marie, Katrine and Stengaardens Dena. Dena is a daughter of Clausholm Dutch Design and out of Frisias Nathalie which we sold to Norway for some friends retaining Dena. Dena was entered for a dressage and a show jumping class, and she did very well though ot in the rosettes in dressage, but a clear round in show jumping. We had a very enjoyable day out.

Clausholm Sole Mio Sold

Congratulations to Heidi the new lucky owner of Clausholm Sole Mio. We are looking much forward following him in the future. Heidi is also the owner of the gelding Præstetoftens Picasso by Rhydspence Squire and out of Clausholm Lady Julia who are doing very well as riding pony. We are looking forward seeing him in novice classes in the near future.

First Foal Arrived

This year Clausholm Skylight by Ysselvliedt Special Edition was the first mare to foal. She got a very nice filly foal by Pendock Mantovani. Time will tell which colour this foal will get but either palomino or grey is certain. Namewise I think she will be called Skype as it has to be something with Sky and she is steady as well as a good surfer! Pictured 1 day old.
